The Glories of the Baroque: a series of talks with music on the history of the pipe organ on 20th November at 7.00pm

Director of Music at St Mary's Cathedral, Frikki Walker gives a talk with music to illustrate the Glories of the Baroque discussing both pipe organs and organ music.

Baroque pipe organ music is a rich, complex period of music that flourished in Europe roughly from 1600 to 1750, defined by intricate counterpoint and massive sonic range. Baroque composers relied heavily on counterpoint, a technique weaving two or more independent melodic lines together at the same time. At this talk Frikki not only explores the ideas and innovations that underpinned baroque music, he brings the subject to life by playing it.
