People came and sang beautifully!

Updated: Jan 10

Come and Sing Carols at St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, Glasgow

Song filled St Mary's Cathedral to its rafters last Saturday 6th December in a new departure in carolling.

This was an unusual 'Come and Sing' event: normally such events feature fairly challenging classical choral pieces, not well known hymns, and are targeted at choral singers; but on this occasion both choristers and 'ordinary' people sang together, side by side.

Some came from choirs around the city, others just came for the Christmas experience. A high proportion were newcomers who came in response to St Mary's social media posts: we were delighted to welcome them.

As a new way to sing carols it worked brilliantly! The audience clapped itself rapturously after every carol. This is not something normally done at St Mary's, but this was not a regular church service, more a happy celebration. Everyone had fun and there were calls to do it again next year.

So keep a look out next November 2026 and Come and Sing at St Mary's.
